CRISPR AND THE ETHICAL DEBATE SURROUNDING IT

Brief Overview of DNA and CRISPR
Everyone has surely heard of DNA and CRISPR somewhere in the news or current events if you are interested in learning more about the events going on in the scientific community. Well from the smallest single-celled organism to the largest creatures on Earth, every living thing is defined by its genes. The DNA contained in our genes functions as an instruction manual for our cells to form the certain features of human beings such as eye and hair color, and surprisingly even the size of our noses! DNA is a double stranded helix model that was developed by Watson and Crick in the 1950s and was done with the aid of X-rays taken by Rosalind Franklin.
Now a little bit about CRISPR. The full form of CRISPR is Clustered Regularly Interspaced Short Palindromic Repeats. Basically the function of CRISPR is that is acts as scissors and fixes the problem at a certain location in the DNA, which is the most common analogy that is used for CRISPR.

My Journey
My name is Samiya Sahu and I am interested in researching more about CRISPR and gene editing technologies. I am curious about understanding the different systems and forming a better opinion on the ethical debate surrounding CRISPR. This website can give you more information about the different systems and what they exactly are and also my opinion on the ethical debate.
